Rowan Im (임주양, Im Juyang; "Ju-yang Im") is a recurring character in the webtoon Weak Hero. After coming back from living in Australia, Rowan now studies at Eunjang High School in Class 1. He is an old friend of Eugene Gale.

Appearance

Rowan is a rather lanky person, being skinny in stature, with red hair, freckles, and small red eyes. In his first appearance, he wears a long sleeved t-shirt but is seen wearing the Eunjang uniform from then on.

Personality

Rowan is considered to be an airhead and exaggerator of the highest degree. He is also an avid admirer of power, worshipping those stronger than him. He loves talking and often exaggerates about his accomplishments or the accomplishments of others. However, his bravado and loyalty to his allies make him a worthy friend.

History

Rowan lived in Australia for three years.[1] It was revealed during a flashback that both Eugene and Rowan used to be homework shuttles, a type of bullying in Korea where victims would do homework for their bullies. Both Rowan and Eugene went to Daehyeon Middle School together, and they both became avid delinquent fans due to Jake's presence at the school. Rowan would eventually suddenly move to Sydney, Australia. After his dad's business failed, he moved back to South Korea where he reunited with Eugene at Hero Cram School and eventually enrolled into Eunjang High.

Relationships

Eugene Gale

Rowan knew Eugene since elementary school. The two would sometimes visit Eugene's aunt's vet clinic in Singil. When Rowan returned to South Korea after his father's business failed in Australia, he was happy to see Eugene at Hero Cram School, and was even happier when he saw that he'd be attending the same high school as him.

Gray Yeon

Ben Park

Teddy Jin

It is unknown if Rowan knows about Teddy bullying Eugene and Gray prior to his arrival, but Rowan immediately became friendly with Teddy after transferring into Class One and recognizing him from the clash against Hyeongshin. The two hang out together during lunch and Teddy notes that Rowan is very talkative, but finds it nice compared to how he had been ostracized and alone after Phillip kicked him out of his group.

Eunchan Hong

The two fought upon their first meeting due to being on opposing sides. After their fight, they were on neutral terms, although Eunchan gave Gray some food to share with Rowan at Lotte World. Eunchan gave Rowan the nickname Kririn (a parody of Dragon Ball Z's Krillin). During the Final Battle, the two purposefully avoided fighting each other because it'd be awkward.

Abilities

Physical

Rowan is known as the "Eunjang's Hyper Elbow" for good reason. He uses his elbow to deliver a strong blow to his enemies, often knocking them out in one hit. However, this tactic is less effective against the stronger members of the Union, with Grape stating that Rowan was a one trick pony, and Wolf eating Rowan's strikes for breakfast in Episode 82.

Mental

Rowan is a great manipulator, easily articulating his thoughts using both truths and lies to make someone appear stronger than they are. Most of the time, Rowan does a great job at changing his words to get the psychological advantage on his opponent, such as seen when he fought Donkey. It’s revealed during a flashback that Rowan taught Eugene this skill as well, which Eugene used to great effect when Gray was fighting the Jailbreak (who were ignorant of Gray’s reputation as the White Mamba).

Trivia

  • Rowan is able to speak English (having Australian accent in particular). By his own accord, he learned by mimicking what he heard on TV.[1]

Quotes

Be brave, hit first! BAM! Hit it! You have to hit first. You know, it's a piece of cake. If you get hit in the jaw, your brain's gonna shake and stop working for a while and lose consciousness and balance. When the enemy comes in your range, don't hesitate and hit them with a single blow.
