Julia Chae (채유진; Chae Yujin; "Yoo-Jin Chae") is a minor character in the Webtoon Weak Hero. She attends Yeongwon Girls' High School, is friends with Lily Nam, and is an associate of Jared Sun.
Appearance[]
Julia has long black-purple hair, which she keeps down to hide a prominent birthmark on the back of her neck. Her eyes are a similar shade of purple and she usually wears light pink blush on her cheeks.
As a student of an unspecified girls' middle school, her uniform consisted of a gray blazer with a matching gray skirt. The collar of the blazer was lined white with a red flower is sown into the lapel and a single golden button at its break point. Underneath, she wore a white collared shirt with a red tie and a V-neck vest. The vest is colored a darker gray and the neckline has a bold black border edging an inch away from it.
As a Yeongwon Girls' High School student, her uniform consists of a dark gray vest and a black straight skirt. Under the vest is a white, long-sleeved, collared button down, accompanies by a butterfly bow-tie striped yellow and black. She wears long ankle socks and black shoes with white bottoms designed similarly to classic Adidas.
Outside of school, she favors wearing jackets over patterned or graphic t-shirts.
Personality[]
She often switches personalities based on who she's around, using her looks to manipulate people into giving her the benefit of the doubt. For example, she pretended to be an unstable girl with uncontrollable urges when she destroyed Rowan's backpack in order to give him a replacement bag containing important Union documents.
Around those like Jared Sun who employ her as a middleman, she has a no nonsense attitude and doesn't entertain invitations to spend any more time than necessary with them. Outside of business, she partakes in group smoking with other delinquents.
Around her non-delinquent friends, she's more reserved. She's quiet and analytical, usually choosing to keep her struggles to herself. She's insecure about her birthmark, only revealing it to people she's close to. Julia has no problem verbally defending herself when someone crosses her boundaries and dislikes people who are dishonest or manipulative. Hence, she holds those who are both kind and straightforward in high regard. However, she's aware and regretful about becoming the type of person she hated.
History[]
Julia was friends in middle school with Lily Nam and Lala Lee. However, she eventually grew tired of Lala's emotional neediness and pettiness, choosing to separate herself from the group.
At some point, she started hanging around other delinquents and taking work as a middle man for paying clients like Jared Sun. She has no true attachments to the Union, but is aware of who they are.
Plot[]
Ganghak Arc[]
As part of his revenge scheme against Rowan Im, Jared Sun enlisted Julia's help in framing him for stealing Wolf Keum's bag. She located Rowan's bag at cram school and shreds it whilst pretending to have no control of her actions. She hands him a leather tote full of union documents and tells Rowan he should keep it while she finds him another school bag. In later episodes, we can see it was all an act to fulfill Jared's objective in return for payment. Rowan spots her smoking with someone before boarding the bus, but he thinks she can't be the same girl from the cram school because their mannerisms are so different.
She goes into hiding when the framing goes bad due to Wolf discovering her role in the deception, and sending members of his Ganghak to go after her. Rowan happens to walk past her hiding and ignores her despite her visible distress, calling her "not worth [his] time". Wolf eventually locates Julia when Lily makes contact with her on the street, and orders his lackeys to go after her. It's unknown whether they caught her or whether she's still on the run.
Jailbreak Ambush[]
She's kidnapped by Lala, Jeongmu, and the other members of the high school drop out gang, Jailbreak. They lead her to a local karaoke joint, where Lala berates her. Julia is terrified and physically trembling. Jeongmu says he won't hurt her if she cooperates, but seeing that Lala is displeased with that statement, he slaps Julia across the cheek to appease Lala.
After this begins the flashback to Lily, Julia, and Lily's past as friends where it's revealed Lala used to like Julia until Julia refused to do something Lala wanted. Afterwards, Lala becomes passive aggressive towards Julia, but Julia pretends not to care as long as Lily keeps her in check. Julia reaches her limit when Lala reveals the birthmark on her neck to Jack and Minjae on a double date. Julia retaliates by exposing Lala's enlarging contacts and Lala's hypocrisy is revealed when she claims that what Julia did is worse compared to what Lala revealed. Julia realizes that Lala is an instinctively selfish person and later on, she tells everything to Lily and no longer wants to be near Lala. The flashback ends.
Julia tells Lala she's the same selfish brat she was in middle school. Lily, Gray, and Eugene arrive to rescue her and Lily leads Julia away from the main stage of the brawl while an angered Gerard and Gray beat up Jeongmu and the other members of Jailbreak. Outside, after the fight, Julia feels extremely guilty about giving Lily trouble and attempts to distance herself from Lily once again. Lily smacks her on the back, annoyed by Julia closing off herself. They make up and Julia decides to be more open with Lily going forward.

Relationships[]
Lily Nam[]
Julia befriended Lily presumably sometime in middle school. They were really close and Julia often did favors for Lily even if they inconvenienced her, such as going on a double blind date with Lala. After Julia was done dealing with Lala, Julia distanced herself from Lily despite genuinely liking her. Lily tried to reconnect with Julia, but it always failed. When she hears about Lala targeting Julia, she ditches cram school and searches for where she could be. After rescuing her with the help of Gray, Eugene, and Gerard, Lily encourages Julia to stop acting so tough and to confide with her about her feelings. Julia cries to Lily and their friendship is restored.
Lala Lee[]
Julia never considered Lala to be her friend and only tolerated her because she was Lily's friend. Lala seemed to have been initially friendly towards Julia but after Julia refused Lala's irrational request to stop wearing a specific blush, Lala's true colors showed. Lala ignored and excluded Julia, but Julia pretended not to care until Lala went too far and revealed a large birthmark on Julia's neck to Jack and Minjae. After realizing that Lala is selfish and unable to handle anyone else receiving praise or attention, she no longer wants anything to do with her.
Lala has gotten incredibly hostile towards Julia after that incident and sent her boyfriend, Jeongmu Choi, and his gang, Jailbreak, after her.
Jared Sun[]
Jared and Julia are acquaintances. It is unknown how long they've known each other or how they met, but Jared already had her contact info when he needed to hire someone to help frame Rowan, implying that Julia has already done shady work for Jared in the past.
Jack Kang[]
Jack has only had one interaction with Julia during a group date consisting of him, Minjae Park, Julia, and Lala in their third year of middle school. The atmosphere becomes awkward when Julia and Lala get into a disagreement. Despite this short interaction, when Minjae tells Jack that Julia is being hunted down by Wolf for stealing money from him, Jack thinks that Julia doesn't seem the type to do that.
