— Jaeryeong to the Action Squad, Chapter 166

Jaeryeong Lee (이재령, Lee Jaeryeong) is the leader of Cheongang's Action Squad.

Appearance

Jaeryeong is a young man with tanned skin and fluffy dark brown hair styled into an undercut. He has blue eyes and earrings. He wears a white polo shirt with a dark brown jacket.

Personality

Like most characters in the series, Jaeryeong enjoys fighting. He is shown to be rather arrogant and underestimated Wolf and Jake.

Jaeryeong is able to acknowledge when he is at fault for something, such as when he agreed to help Yongbae Jo in exchange for Mr. Jo working with Cheongang, even though Changhui specifically told Jaeryeong to not mess with Mr. Jo. He accepted that he was to blame and had no hard feelings when Changhui scolded him and threw a glass at him.

Plot

Episode 158

After Jake confronts Yongbae Jo to retrieve the Daegwang contract and defeats both of the bodyguards, Mr. Jo calls up Jaeryeong to ask for help. Jaeryeong doesn't accept until Mr. Jo says that he'll agree to work with Cheongang.

Jaeryeong and four other members of the Action Squad arrive and mock Jake. They turn to Wolf when he arrives and ask who he is.

Episode 159

When Wolf starts beating the shit out of an Action Squad member, Jaeryeong orders the rest of his men to attack. Jake kicks Jaeryeong in the back and tells him that he's the wrong person to turn his back on.

A flashback shows that Cheongang's Action Squad takes care of all the conflicts from the front line, resulting in them having many real combat experiences. Yongbae Jo is watching as Jaeryeong and two other member confronts a gang. Jaeryeong starts off by politely greeting the thugs and saying that Cheongang's received complaints about the gang hanging around the area. The thugs tells the Action Squad to fuck off but Jaeryeong reminds them that the area is Cheongang's territory. The thugs don't know what Cheongang is and Jaeryeong notes that they're not from Mapo. The Action Squad beat up the thugs and Yongbae Jo mentions that the sound of the beating was so intense that his heart was racing with fear.

Back in the present, Jaeryeong and the purple haired Action Squad member fight Jake. Jaeryeong orders his partner to hold Jake. He then punches Jake and tells Jake that bluffing would get his ass whooped. Jaeryeong kicks Jake but Jake ducks and throws the purple haired Action Squad member. Jaeryeong watches as Jake kicks the purple haired Action Squad member and gets angry.

Episode 160

Doyun and Changhui are discussing potential executives of the third generation of Cheongang. Changhui says that choosing the best of a bad bunch would mean Jaeryeong would be the best fit. He says that no one has as much real combat experience as Jaeryeong, but the problem is that he doesn't have strong enough determination. Changhui also says that Jaeryeong may have a lot of experiences, but he's never met someone his match. Changhui says that a Cheongang should be able to win against a strong opponent, so strong they seem unbeatable.

Jaeryeong attempts to punch Jake, but Jake deflect it. Jake elbows Jaeryeong right in the fact. The two charge at each other but Jaeryeong's punch misses while Jake successfully uppercuts Jaeryeong's chin. Jaeryeong says that Jake's attitude will fuck him up real good and that he's going to put Jake in his place. Jaeryeong attempts to punch Jake again only for him to duck and land multiple hits. Jake spins and kicks Jaeryeong, sending him to the floor. Jake says he isn't done yet and continues to pummel Jaeryeong.

Jaeryeong is shocked by Jake's overwhelming strength. Jaeryeong realizes that Jake isn't some little minion who runs errands. Jaeryeong recalls that he prided himself on being someone with a reputation to keep as Jaeryeong Lee, the Stone Fist of Mapo, but he realizes that Jake is on another level. Jake and Wolf retrieve the files and Jake tells Jaeryeong that Jaeryeong only felt powerful because he watched people scurry away from them as he played monopoly and went around in his little gang. Jake tells Jaeryeong that he'll get killed without a trace if he keeps that going.

Jaeryeong realizes that both Jake and Wolf are not pushovers and that unless it's the executives of Cheongang, no one would be able to go against them.

Episode 162

The Action Squad are standing in front of the executives and several unnamed members, reporting their defeat with their heads hung low. The five members are trembling in fear. Changhui asks Jaeryeong if the job is not the right fit for him and Jaeryeong answers no. Changhui tells Jaeryeong that he must be aware of what Cheongang looks like when the Action Squad gets beaten to a pulp by little kids. Jaeryeong apologizes but Changhui throws his glass at him, barely avoiding Jaeryeong but causing the boy to visibly flinch.

Changhui says sorry doesn't cut it and to not do something that he'll be sorry for in the first place. He reminds Jaeryeong that he's told him not to mess with Mr. Jo. Changhui asks if it was those bastards from Yeongdeungpo. Rather than answering the question, Jaeryeong says that they've let down their guards and that their opponents were better than their expectation. This causes Doyun to angrily slap Jaeryeong and remind him that the boss was asking if they were from Yeongdeungpo.

Jaeryeong confirms that they were from Yeongdeungpo and wanted to take back the contract Mr. Jo ripped off of another CEO to hijack the building material supply bid. Juwon confirms that Magyeong Construction and Yongbae Jo are known for using shallow tricks to win over exclusive rights. Changhui says that although it's tricky to determine who's at fault, since they took a hit they can't let it slide. He says if Cheongang keeps quiet in a situation like this, they'll lose face and their reputation on the streets will be over. Changhui orders all executives to gather at the Octagon early next week and dismisses everyone.

The Action Squad leaves but Giju catches up to them in the stairwell. Giju tells Jaeryeong not to feel bad about how he was treated back there and that at least the whole gang is rallying for revenge. Jaeryeong says that he has no hard feelings and that he was the one at blame to begin with. Giju shows Jaeryeong a photo of Wolf on his phone and asks if he was among the scums that came over. Jaeryeong confirms that Wolf was there and asks if Giju knew him because that guy was fucked up. Giju tells him that he doesn't know him but that he's interested in Wolf personally. When Doyun comes out to get Giju because Juwon wants to talk to him, Giju tells Jaeryeong that he can leave now. Jaeryeong bows at Giju and Doyun before leaving.

Episode 163

Jaeryeong gives Juwon and Giju his report. He mentions Kenny Ji, a low-rank executive from Manwol, and says that one of the guys that attacked them at Magyeong was Kenny's younger brother. Juwon asks if the Yeongdeungpo Union and Kenny's brother conspired together and were the ones to bring down Manwol, which Jaeryeong confirms.

After they are dismissed, Jaeryeong and the purple haired member of the Action Squad are walking down the stairs. The Action Squad member tells Jaeryeong that Juwon's presence is huge but that Giju seems gentler than the rest of the executives, and that Giju is very supportive but his managerial skills are far more superior than his fighting skills. Jaeryeong scolds the newbie and tells him about the big contribution Giju made during the Seongsan Massacre.

Episode 166

Jaeryeong is at the Mapo Office when one of the Action Squad members slams the door open and calls Jaeryeong's name. Jaeryeong asks why he's in such a hurry and the purple haired member says that something bad must be going on because everyone who went with Hyeonsae isn't picking up their phones. Jaeryeong brushes off the concerns and says that the punks must be slacking off and to call Pansu, but Purple said even Pansu wasn't answering his phone and that he couldn't get a hold of anyone. Jaeryeong says that he'll call Giju but realizes that the situation isn't good when Giju didn't answer. He orders everyone to head to the Octagon.

The Action Squad ends up confronting Hyeongshin and the Mok-Ha Duo at an underpass. Jaeryeong realizes that they were preparing an ambush. The Action Squad and Team Hyeongshin-Mok-Ha fight. Dongha kicks Jaeryeong, grabs his hair, and punches him in the face. Jaeryeong grabs Dongha's arm and elbows him in the face. He delivers a punch which Dongha blocks. Dongha thinks that the attack might've knocked him down and says that Jaeryeong's hits weren't that bad.

Jaeryeong continues fighting against Dongha and thinks that no matter how unprepared he and the Action Squad were, the Yeongdeungpo brats shouldn't be the best fighters. Dongha laughs as he knees Jaeryeong and asks if Jaeryeong is having as much fun as he was. Jaeryeong thinks that every single one of the Yeongdeungpo brats are damn strong. Jaeryeong yells out "Cheongang! Waves of the Heavens! Pierce through no matter what!" and motivates the rest of the Action Squad. Dongha calls the chant cheesy and attempts his own chant, but no Hyeongshin student responds.

Jaeryeong punches Dongha in the face and the purple haired Action Squad member grabs Dongha from behind and holds him in place. Jaeryeong orders him to hold Dongha still as he punches him. Jaeryeong tells Dongha that he is Mapo's Stone Fist. He tries to punch Dongha again but Seongmok intervenes and punches Jaeryeong in the face. Jaeryeong wonders what is going on and what just happened.

Episode 173

A flashback shows Jaeryeong describing Juwon to his Action Squad members as a hurricane, and says watching Juwon is like watching a wild storm. He says Jaeryeong will take down anyone with one swing from any angle, and that it's not just fear you feel but downright terror to the point that you'll doubt your eyes.

Episode 178

Cheongang's Action Squad and Team Hyeongshin-Mok-Ha are still fighting. Dongha asks if Jaeryeong is finally getting tired and Jaeryeong responds by swinging but Dongha manages to dodge. Dongha knees Jaeryeong in the guts but Jaeryeong grabs onto Dongha's leg. He slams Dongha to the ground and starts punching him but Dongha guards his face. Dongha rolls onto his side and knees Jaeryeong. Jaeryeong tells Dongha that if he thinks Mapo's like the backstreets of Yeongdeungpo, he's mistaken. Dongha thinks that all the assholes he's been running into lately don't give up easily.

Dongha receives a call from Donald and Jaeryeong calls him out for answering a call in the middle of a fight, but Jaeryeong also receives a call directly from Changhui. Both Donald and Changhui tell their subordinates that a deal has been made and to stop fighting. The two groups start to leave but Dongha tells Jaeryeong that he's dead next time they meet. Jaeryeong responds by telling Dongha to come back with a haircut unless he wants his hair to be ripped from his scalp. Jaeryeong wonders about the deal and if the Yeongdeungpo punks are actually worth a damn. He thinks that the kids he fought were no joke and wonders just what kind of neighborhood Yeongdeungpo is to create such beasts.

Episode 195

Giju is talking to Jaeryeong over the phone. Giju tells Jaeryeong that since he's going to Seongsan district anyway, he'll collect the money and that Jaeryeong should help Doyun with his job instead. Once Giju notices Wolf, he tells Jaeryeong to stop by Seongsan instead and apologizes because he forgot that he had something he needed to take care of. He tells Jaeryeong that he's counting on him.

Episode 202

When Mr. Jang of Jang-Il Transportation is talking to Changhui, he mentions that all of his cash is tied up in operating expenses for Jang-Il Transportation but a man's got to save face, so he had Jaeryeong make some rounds. After Doyun is instructed to keep an eye on Mr. Jang and leaves Changhui's office, one of Doyun's goons informs Doyoon that Giju had fought Wolf again in Seongsan, and the reason Giju went to the countryside is to buy some time while he recovers. Doyun asks if he's sure and the goon says that Pansu heard Giju talking to Jaeryeong that day.

Episode 212

Jaeryeong greets Giju, who finally returned from the countryside after his wounds have mostly healed. Giju asks him where Doyun and Juwon are, and Jaeryeong informs him that Doyun went to collect the money from Mr. Jang and Juwon wasn't clear where he was going, but he just said he was going to finish something today.

Relationships

Changhui Han

Jaeryeong highly respects the leader of Cheongang. He doesn't get mad at Changhui when the latter scolds him and throws a glass at him. Jaeryeong understands that he is at fault for the situation. When Changhui calls Jaeryeong during the Union VS Cheongang battle, Jaeryeong answers the call despite being in the middle of a fight. He obeys when Changhui says to stop fighting because a deal's been made.

Giju Seol

Jaeryeong respects Giju. He acknowledges both Giju's fighting skills and managerial skills. Although to new members Giju seems to be gentler than the other executives, Jaeryeong knows of Giju's fighting history and how he got rid of the rebellious members of Seongsan during the massacre, including one of Seongsan's leaders.

Giju offers to do some of Jaeryeong's tasks if it's within his path, such as when he agreed to collect the money from Seongsan since he was headed in that direction anyway and told Jaeryeong to help Doyun with his job instead. When Giju suddenly changes his mind due to seeing Wolf wants a rematch, he apologizes to Jaeryeong.

Juwon Lee

Jaeryeong respects Juwon and holds him in very high regards. Jaeryeong was quick to apologize when he and the rest of the backup was too late to arrive to help Juwon, and Juwon had already defeated all of his opponents.

Doyun Kim

Jaeryeong respects Doyun. Doyun looks down on Jaeryeong and resorts to immediately slapping him in the face when he didn't directly answer Changhui's question. Despite this, Jaeryeong holds no ill will and understands that it was his own fault that caused the mess.
