"The thing about plans is, until you make them happen, they're just delusions." - Donald Na.

Donald Na (나백진, Na Baekjin; "Baek-jin Na") is the Number One delinquent of Yeongdeungpo, and the main antagonist in the webtoon, Weak Hero. He is the head of Yeo-Il High School and the leader of the Yeongdeungpo Union.

Appearance[]

Donald Na is a tall, intimidating teen with straight, platinum blond hair, most of which sticks upwards, although his hair style changes throughout the series. His blood-red eyes and tattoo-covered body strikes fear in the hearts of people. He is covered in tattoos from neck below, including his torso, back, arms, hands, legs, and ankles. He typically covers his tattoos, but will show them before his subordinates in order to intimidate them. The words “KING” and “LIFE” are tattooed on his fingers. He has many piercings on both his ears and two near his left eyebrow. He is portrayed to have a good fashion sense, as seen from the big name-brand clothing that he wears (like Versace) and the Chrome Hearts rings on most of his fingers.

Personality[]

Donald Na is a very charismatic leader, who gets what he wants. He has this great ability to get things done, due to his timely decision-making skills.[1] He is known to be very business-savvy, making a lot of money by collaborating with businesses. He uplifted a failing uniform company, KHG, by striking a business deal with them. Now, that company holds 80% shares of the market, and the CEO refers to him as "Mr. Na".[2]

Donald is an extremely intelligent person, not only business-wise, but also academically as shown by him creating a very complicated question in a book, thus winning the prize money of three million won.[3] He is also very cunning and cruel as shown by his quick decisiveness to punish those he deems useless and a failure.[4] He is a very practical and manipulative person.[5]

History[]

Donald Na lived with his abusive step-father while his mother was hospitalized and on life support. He attended Yeowon Elementary School where he was given a grant due to having a parent on life support and being a working student. Donald was often bullied by his classmates for being poor and his teachers took advantage of him being a working student by having him do non-school related tasks such as massaging their feet. Everything changed when Donald's mother passed away in the hospital and he wasn't aware of it at the time as his teachers kept it from him to keep him working at the school for them.

After the realization of his mother's death finally reached him, Donald became overcome with grief. His bullies who tormented him throughout the school years made the mistake of mocking his mother's memory and destroying the notes she had left him, which were the only things Donald had left of his mother. No longer feeling he needs to hold back, Donald brutally beat the hell out of his bullies, who immediately began screaming for mercy, proving they were nothing but self-entitled cowards. Afterwards, he got physically berated by his corrupt homeroom teacher for the act, calling him "ungrateful for all the things he did for Donald" (which included giving him moldy bread to eat) before having him expelled. Donald then threatened him back, saying that his actions taught him how disgusting adults are and decided to take that lesson to heart.

Three years later, after Donald began establishing the Union, he hunted down and beat up his abusive step-father who had abandoned him after his mother's death and had ran off with the life insurance money. Afterwards, he left him to his fate after reporting his location to people he owed massive debts to. Donald also paid back his corrupt homeroom teacher by exposing all the dirt he collected on him on the day before he was planning to get married, which included taking bribes, school corruption, sleeping with other women (including some students' mothers), and sexually assaulting female students. He then later gets his gang to ambush and beat up the homeroom teacher for good measure.

Donald realized that in order to properly manage students, he'd also need to be a student and enrolled into Yeo-Il Middle School in the middle of the second semester. He blackmailed the principal into making his attendance in classes not mandatory. Kingsley, at first, thought Donald to be a typical thug that solved everything with only violence. However, Donald proved Kingsley wrong by beating a third year bully with connections to the school, yet getting the bully punished with a transfer to another school while he himself got away with a light sentence of volunteer hours. Kingsley considered Donald to be the perfect being he had always idolized and became his loyal follower.

He quickly rose in notoriety for being a powerful leader that unified the middle schools in his districts. Manwol ignored this rising star and that proved to be their fatal mistake, as Donald and his gang took down Manwol while they were still in their third year of middle school and established the Yeongdeungpo Union, with Donald as their leader.[1]

In Episodes 92 through 98, the fight between Jimmy and Ben was further revealed, not just that Donald interrupted the fight, but also challenged Ben to a 1v1 fight. The fight eventually resulted in Donald's win and Ben's severe arm injury, resolving the subtle allusions around in the early chapters. In Episodes, 101-103, in a flashback, it was revealed that Donald received a phone call from Kingsley during Donald's fight with Ben, saying that Jake accepted Donald's invitation to the Union. Jake, at first, refused the invitation because Jake saw no benefit from joining. However, Jake was willing to join the Union for personal reasons, and this caused Donald to stop his fight with Ben abruptly. Seeing that both Ben and Alex were unable to fight and talking to Jake in person was a lot more pressing of a matter. Donald officially welcomes Jake to the Union. Together, they and the rest of the Union take down Manwol, which was the high school gang that hurt Jake's brother, Kenny Ji. This ultimately leads to the relationship that Donald and Jake share as of now.

Plot[]

Not much is revealed about Donald Na, except for the flashbacks of him interrupting the fight between Jimmy and Ben in the early episodes, and being an associate of Phillip Kim at one point. Much later in episodes 40-50, Donald sets up Hyeongshin against Eunjang. This eventually leads to Eunjang crushing Hyeongshin and the results ultimately disappointing Donald Na. During the Union assembly shortly after, Donald redirects the Hyeongshin commissions because of Hyeongshin's loss. Hyeongshin has now lost much of its influence.

When Jared instigated tensions for his own personal gain and sabotaged the commissions from the Yeouinaru office to Ganghak, it angered both Wolf and Donald. It infuriated Donald that Wolf had lost the money, and this frustration is further compounded when Wolf lost to Eunjang. When Wolf no longer wants to be Donald's dog, Donald dares him to try to take him down. Wolf takes the bait but it swiftly defeated; Kingsley stepped in to make sure Donald doesn't go too far. Donald tells Wolf to come to Yeouinaru once he's gotten all his shit together.

When Donald's businesses started crumbling and even Chungil Lee got arrested, Donald sent the Mok-Ha Duo after Eugene, the person responsible for the policy. Although Dongha put Eugene into a coma, he failed to bring Eugene to Donald which infuriated the latter. Donald later called Ben Park directly and set up a date for the final battle: Friday, October 24.

At the end of Chapter 255 Myles was revealed to have waited for Donald to be alone, just to be soundly beaten between the end of the chapter and Chapter 256. After the fight, Donald leaves. Later, while confronting Gray in a somewhat deranged state, he is struck down by a truck.

He later succumbs to his injuries showing the readers that in the end, nobody was able to truly defeat him. Kingsley prepares the perfect funeral for him and all of the Union members are in attendance. Wolf and Hwangmo attend but remain outside while Ben Park enters the funeral hall. His ashes are placed in the niche next to his mother's.

Relationships[]

Kingsley Kwan[]

Kingsley is Donald's right-hand man and is the manager of affairs with the other schools of the Union. Donald relies on Kingsley to orchestrate certain events, such as drawing Jake into the Union and waiting outside the Yeouinaru office to intentionally let Wolf and Jimmy fight each other. Kingsley follows Donald's orders without question and will help Donald in any way he sees fit for the current situation. His loyalty to Donald is to the point where he sometimes acts without consulting Donald, despite knowing that it may upset him, such as when Kingsley hired thugs to kidnap Ben.

Kingsley was devastated when Donald died. He managed to bury down his emotions while he ensured Donald had the perfect funeral. During the funeral, he finally breaks down and sobs, even falling down to his knees. Afterwards, Kingsley continues the Union and also begins digging into the incident.

Jake Ji[]

Jake Ji was invited to join the Union by Donald Na with the help of Kingsley Kwon. Jake was fully aware of who Donald Na was, but was hesitant to join the Union, seeing that it served no purpose for him for his school. However, once Jake's older brother Kenny was beaten up severely by the Full Moon Union, Jake took Donald's invitation to join the Union to get back at those who hurt Kenny. Using the commission money, he could pay off his brother's hospital bills and has respected Donald Na ever since. Despite Donald's recent orders for Jake to take down Ben himself, which has caused Jake to harbor some feelings of resentment for Donald. Though he does not show his disdain and executes his orders as given.

Wolf Keum[]

Wolf Keum was one of Donald's more favored lapdogs in the Union. Holding a number 5 in the Official Shuttle Patch Rankings, Donald recognizes that Wolf is much stronger than most members of the Union, including Jimmy or Forrest. However, Donald also sees Wolf as easily manipulated, as Wolf usually reacts more often instinctually rather than rationally. Wolf was later pitted against Jimmy by Donald intentionally as a way to divide the two further apart so that they do not see each other as allies. Donald makes sure that Wolf will never be a threat to Donald's empire, by making these preemptive measures. Wolf either doesn't know those are Donald Na's actions and just acts along with it, or he simply doesn't care and is too worried about being at risk of excommunication like Myles Joo.

Forrest Lee[]

Donald doesn't really care much about Forrest and Hyeongshin, as he noted that Forrest was too careful and lacked any actual presence compared to Myles Joo. Forrest doesn't dare to speak against Donald, being fully aware of what happened to Myles Joo. Forrest disliked Donald for pitting him against Eunjang, but after his loss, Hyeongshin has been at the mercy of Ganghak because of their commissions being reallocated to Ganghak by Donald Na. Forrest sees this as way more humiliating than Donald punishing Forrest himself but voices nothing because doesn't think Hyeongshin is worth the time and effort.

Jimmy Bae[]

Donald thinks Jimmy is delusional and needs to be repeatedly reminded who is the strongest in the Union. After Jimmy's losses to Ben, Donald has punished Jimmy by reallocating Yoosun's commissions directly to Daehyeon, which Jimmy sees as a low blow. Jimmy is afraid but also respectful of Donald's fighting prowess, knowing how powerful Donald is and like Forrest, does not dare to speak out against Donald's actions because he is just as afraid that he will be excommunicated from the Union like Myles Joo.

Naksung Yoon[]

Naksung was brought into the Union before Jake Ji, because their notoriety and fame was widespread across Daehyeon. Naksung, much like the others, are tasked to take down Ben Park and Donald sees Naksung as a backup plan in case if Jake fails. There has been no direct interaction shown between Naksung and Donald but it's clear that Naksung is Donald's pawn to take down Eunjang.

Changhui Han[]

Changhui and Donald are the respective leaders of their own territories. The area they control are only separated by a river. Both of them are similar in some ways, like how they run an organization that profits them. Donald Na noted that they respect each other's territories. After the Daegwang incident, this led to Cheongang and the Union to inevitably clash. The Union raided the Octagon where the Cheongang executives gather for a meeting. As the executives of both organizations got into a brutal fight in the lower floor, Donald confronted Changhui upstairs. Donald tried to talk things through with Changhui but it failed, prompting the two to fight each other. Changhui stood no chance against Donald, but he wanted to leave Donald a scar even if he lost.

When Changhui was about to Judo slam Donald, this made Donald irritated. Changhui was also able to inflict a heavy blow on Donald's left arm, but it just made Donald even more annoyed. Changhui refused to give up and pulled out a knife. He slashed Donald's arm, which triggered Donald's trauma and angered him. Donald evaded Changhui's attacks and used the table to subdue him. Donald used the knife to incise Changhui's forehead, and Donald did the same to himself to help Changhui save face. Donald proposed the agreement again and Changhui accepted it. Donald thanked Changhui for accepting the agreement, and apologized that it was a rough process.

Gray Yeon[]

Gray and Donald often win prizes together in math competitions with Donald submitting the S-level questions and Gray successfully answering them. Donald knew Gray for his rising reputation as one of Yeongdeungpo's best fighters, and slowly put more attention to him when Gray beat Wolf Keum. Gray knew Donald as the leader of the Union. Donald finally gave serious attention in Gray after the latter gave a splendid solution to his almost unsolvable math problem. The first time the two saw each other was when they passed by each other in the hospital. Gray immediately deduced that it was Donald Na from the description given to him by his friends.

After Donald's victory over both Ben and Gray during the Han River Battle, Donald sought Gray out again. Although he called out to the latter to fight again, the hidden meaning behind his words were him desperately begging Gray to stop him. As he laid dying after getting struck by a truck, Donald wonders if he had met Gray earlier, would they have been friends? He imagines a world where he and Gray became friends and attended the same high school together. Donald's death traumatized Gray deeply and caused him to stay home and away from his friends.

Myles Joo[]

Myles was a founding member of the Union and is one of the members Donald has known the longest. Myles was the former second-in-command prior to Kingsley's recruitment. Back when the Union was in its starting stages, Donald had Myles help him with personal revenge against his abusive stepfather and elementary school teacher. Myles and some other gang members broke into Yeowon Elementary School to copy Mr. Jeong's hard drive. After Donald exposed Mr. Jeong's disgusting crimes, Donald sent Myles and the gang to beat him up. Donald also had them hunt down his stepfather and beat him up. After Myles was demoted, he began to resent Donald and eventually betrayed him by making secret deals with Manwol. Despite their history together, Donald did not hesitate to punish Myles Joo for his betrayal, going as far as to break his thigh bone.

Abilities[]

Physical[]

Much is unknown about his fighting prowess but it is known that he is currently the strongest character in the series. He easily beat Ben Park[6][7][8] and almost every leader in his Union at one point in time. During his fight with Wolf it was heavily implied he had a fighting style that revolved around striking the weak points of the human body like the throat. He grievously beat the Mok-ha Duo without even sustaining any damage, to the point that Dongha Baek thought that he was going to kill them. Ben Park noted that Donald's hits are hard and painful. As shown in his fight against Ben Park and Changhui Han, Donald likes to use a parry that inflicts damage to his opponent's hand and deflecting it at the same time.[6][9] He also has an incredible defensive fighting ability, easily blocking or dodging Ben Park's punches. Donald has incredible endurance and stamina. He was able to defeat Ben Park, Gray Yeon, Myles Joo, and Manwol all within minutes of each other.

Mental[]

Donald Na is knowledgeable in academics, fighting, and entrepreneurship. This most likely because he was born in an environment where he had to be the best for those. Being academically oriented and being able to solve difficult math competition equations, saved businesses from going bankrupt and out of business, attacking his opponents based on physiological weak points of the human body (ex: throat and stomach). Even being able to best Ben Park in a fight easily makes Donald the most difficult antagonist to overcome in the Weak Hero manhwa.

Trivia[]

  • He doesn't drink black tea.
  • He loves chocolate.
  • His mother's family name is Lee, meaning he inherited his family name "Na" from his biological father who is never shown or mentioned in the series.
  • It is implied that Changhui Han orchestrated his death due to Changhui giving a job to Jang-Il Transportation in exchange for clearing Mr. Jang's debt, although this remains unconfirmed.
  • He is the youngest Weak Hero character with a confirmed birthday.

Quotes[]

I gave a street thug who lived off stealing kids' lunch money a taste of the better life, and now... it's always the fucking raggity ones that are hypnotized by the first taste of money and forget their place.
Chapter 25, Donald Na about Jimmy Bae
I guess it's about time I put on a good performance. I'll set an example.
Chapter 25, Donald Na about Jimmy Bae
I have one thing to say before I start. I'm not the type to show mercy and go easy on people because when I leave things unfinished, they get hopeful and challenge me again. And I really hate that. It kinda makes me feel like I'm wasting my time, or something like that.
