Chapter 34 is the thirty fourth chapter of Weak Hero.

It is the ninth part of Gray and Stephen's Backstory.

Synopsis

In the principal’s office, Oscar Yang and the school admin decide to not make the incident a larger problem. They don’t think Stephen’s mom will cause any trouble as long as they choose their words carefully. Since there isn’t any solid evidence of Oswald Yang’s involvement, they declare that Stephen fell on his own.

In the teacher’s lounge, Ms. Lee thinks it doesn’t make any sense how Stephen is in a coma but the culprits only get off with three days of in-school community service. That admin says that a penalty for the school violence committee wouldn’t be good for either side and that it’d make Byuksan look bad. He says that Mr. Yang came all the way down to ask the favor and since the school wouldn’t want it any other way either, they’ll just wrap the whole thing up nice and quietly.

In Class 3-4, Mr. Bang tells the class to not get themselves wrapped up in it emotionally and that it’s times like these that they should become even more focused on their duties as students. Mr. Bang questions why there’s an empty seat and the students say, while laughing, that he’s absent since his boyfriend’s in a coma. The teacher leaves and Oswald is glad that things are wrapping up and they got away just fine.

At Gray’s house, his mother worryingly knocks on his bedroom door and tells Gray that he needs to eat. Gray is in bed, depressed, and watching a video on his computer screen.

The Olympiad results are out and it is revealed that Gray won the grand prize. Ms. Lee thinks that the certificate is meaningless now that Gray doesn’t come to school. She begins to question her job as a teacher.

Two months have passed since Stephen fell from the roof. Mr. Bang gets scolded by the admin for the support expiring and for the class having unpaid lunch fees. Mr. Bang tells the student that they have until the end of the week to pay for their lunch fees. He tells the class rep to gather all the district supported equipment and to return it. Wesley says that since the utilization assessments aren’t finished, they won’t be able to have it listed on their student records. Mr. Bang yells at them to shut up and quit arguing.

By second period, Gray finally returns to school. His classmates wonder if Gray has given up on getting into a science high school and wonder if he’ll even be able to graduate with his current attendance rate.

Oswald Yang and his posse arrive at the classroom and notice Gray’s presence. Oswald says that since Stephen isn’t around, he’s been bored. He jokes that maybe he should visit him at the hospital to see if he’ll come back from death at the sight of them.

Later, Gray asks Jeremy if he’s on duty to which Jeremy confirms. Gray says he isn’t feeling good at the moment and requests to switch with him. Jeremy agrees and thinks Gray might drop at any moment. He notices Gray’s shoes.

A flashback shows Gray watching a video of a mixture that isn’t noticeable when dry but becomes stinky when drenched in sweat. He sprays one of his PE uniforms with the mixture.

In the present, Gray’s class is running laps during PE. The students notice a stench coming from Oswald and the PE teacher orders Oswald to get changed in the classroom. Oswald wonders if the clothes are even his since they’re tighter than usual and as he is about to take his uniform off, Gray stands ominously behind him.
