Chapter 31 is the thirty first chapter of Weak Hero.

It is the sixth part of Gray and Stephen's Backstory.

Synopsis

Oswald raises his hand to hit Stephen and Stephen flinches. Oswald laughs and points out how terrified Stephen is. The entire class is too terrified to speak up or do anything. Oswald asks Stephen what happened to all the shit talking behind his back and to say that shit to his face. Bryce’s admiration for Stephen had turned into jealousy and then hostility and then to contempt, resulting in him telling lies to Oswald. The lies became facts and Stephen isn’t allowed a chance to prove his innocence and became an enemy of Oswald’s gang.

Oswald grabs Stephen by his hair and says that since Stephen said he could take him, then should they fight right now? Bryce says that Stephen only got first place because he copied Gray’s answers. Stephen wonders why Bryce is doing this to him and wonders why no one is stepping up to stop the bullying. He wonders why Oswald believes Bryce’s lies. He realizes that no one cared about what the truth was.

Stephen glares at Oswald and claims that he could beat him. In the face of the rage and violence of the group, Stephen chose to not even attempt to clear his name. Oswald and Bryce beat him up.

In the teacher’s office, Mr. Bang tells Gray that he forgot to register him and tells Mrs. Lee to sign Gray up. As they walk back to class, Jeremy tells Gray that the homeroom teacher should at least apologize but Gray says that since he’s entered now, it’s fine. When they return to the classroom, Gray wonders where Stephen is. All of the students are too terrified of being Oswald’s next target and remain quiet.

Gray receives a text from Stephen saying that he’ll go home early that day. Stephen begins to distance himself from Gray. Stephen is worried that if Gray stayed close to him, Gray would become the gang’s target as well. It is painful for Gray to watch Stephen slowly fall into a darker place. No matter how many times Gray asked, Stephen wouldn’t tell him about anything that was happening to him.

At a construction site at night, Oswald and his gang are bullying Stephen again. Oswald tells Stephen that if he can get last place on the upcoming test, he’ll leave him alone. Stephen limps away as he is dismissed.

The next morning, Gray notices the entire class laughing at something which makes Gray uncomfortable. Jeremy secretly sends Gray a message to go to the bathroom. In the bathroom, Jeremy shows something on his phone to Gray and Gray is shocked and blushes.
