Chapter 29 is the twenty ninth chapter of Weak Hero.

It is the fourth part of Gray and Stephen's Backstory.

Synopsis

The homeroom teacher orders everyone who didn’t finish their performance evaluation homework to the front of the class to face corporal punishment. Gray digs around his desk and realizes that he doesn’t have his homework. Stephen notices and scratches out his own name and gives his paper to Gray. Gray flinches as Stephen suffers corporal punishment.

Bryce is annoyed and surprised that Stephen was willing to take a beating for Gray. It is revealed that Bryce had accidentally grabbed Gray’s homework. Bryce is annoyed and thinks Stephen and Gray are being overdramatic as if it were a movie.

Oswald Yang and his gang are talking about meeting up with some Songmin Middle School girls near Bang Crossroad. Oswald notices Bryce wearing Jeezys and asks if they’re legit, to which Bryce replies that he asked his aunt who lives in the United States for help. Oswald asks Bryce to get him a pair of Zebras in Size 11 and Bryce agrees.

After Bryce gives him the shoes, Oswald invites Bryce to hang out with his gang at Cafe Gamma to get drunk with some Songmin Middle School girls. Bryce recalls that he is supposed to go to the PC Cafe with Gray and Stephen, but decides to hang out with Oswald and his gang instead in order to become part of the cool kids. It is from that day forth that Bryce began to drift away from Gray and Stephen.

Sometime later, Gray is reading several martial arts and self-defense books and Stephen comments that he’s trying to be both brain and brawn. Gray says that he reads it for fun. Stephen mentions that it’s hard to see Bryce around lately, and Gray tells him that Bryce hangs out with Oswald’s squad and that he even smokes. Stephen says that doesn’t sound like Bryce.

Stephen goes over to Gray’s house to play some Takken. While showering, Stephen notices that Gray’s parents aren’t really around much. They play their revenge match and Gray wins in the end. Stephen waves goodbye as he leaves and starts to head home. He decides to walk to get some exercise instead of taking the bus.

In an alley, Stephen sees Bryce and greets him. He sees Donny beaten up and Oswald stealing Donny’s money.
