Chapter 138 is the one hundred thirty eighth chapter of Weak Hero. It is the 11th chapter of the third season.
It is the third part of Gerard Jin's Backstory.
Synopsis[]
Jinu asks Hyeonjin if the songs are coming well and asks to hear them to get a grasp of the concept, but Hyeonjin refuses to share the music until he’s a hundred percent satisfied. Jinu brings up that they need to find more gigs because it’s hard enough to just get enough money for the band to rehearse together. He suggests working with an agent, and says that he and Gerard think it’s a good idea.
Hyeonjin refuses because if they work with Sinma, they’ll have to do what they want whenever they tell them to do something. He says that Slam plays for the love of music, not for money. Gerard brings up that they need the money for paying for the practice room and gears, and says that the band isn’t a bunch of stuck-up artists who refuse to make any money.
Gerard claims that Hyeonjin’s stubbornness is hurting the band, but Hyeonjin points out how Gerard is always getting fights and even injured his hand. He tells Gerard that he should become a professional fighter since he already fights often. Jinu intervenes before the argument can escalate.
Gerard goes outside to smoke and Sangman sits besides him. Sangman tells him that while he and Jinu agree with Gerard, they also have to hear Hyeonjin out. They can’t take sides whenever there is a conflict between Gerard and Hyeonjin, and some bands don’t even last a month. Sangman doesn’t want to lose either Gerard or Hyeonjin.
Sangman decides to secretly let Gerard listen to the demo file he had convinced Hyeonjin to give. From the intro alone, Gerard can tell that Hyeonjin is a genius. Sangman comments that the sound is practically made for Gerard and although Hyeonjin is a bit touchy, he probably knows Gerard better than anyone. Gerard has always felt that the songs Hyeonjin writes are incalculable not just to the band, but to himself too. He can’t even begin to copy him.
After practice, Slam splits up to head home. Jeongmu and his gang watch them from a bridge. If Gerard had shown how much stronger he was and established his position in the hierarchy before bringing Jeongmu down, it probably would’ve been less humiliating for Jeongmu. Jeongmu feels like something has been taken away from him, and since he is a sorer loser, he refuses to accept it. He thinks Gerard tricked him.
Jeongmu tells his friends that soon, he’ll set their studio on fire and kill Gerard. The two don’t believe him so he punches them. Jeongmu recalls that Sanguk promised to deal with Gerard tomorrow at school. He thinks that since Gerard has an injured finger, he won’t stand a chance against him.
The next day, Gerard receives a phone call from Jinu saying that Hyeonjin agreed. Jinu is relieved that doing all the scheduling and promotion were a pain. Their call ends and Gerard is surprised that Hyeonjin changed his mind. Gerard is suddenly kicked out of his chair by Sanguk Yeom, who challenges Gerard to a fight.
